In 2024-25, Bihar’s GSDP at current prices is projected to be INR 9.76 trillion (US$ 116.45 billion) and increased at a CAGR (in INR) of 11.31% between 2015-16 and 2024-25.
Bihar recorded strong growth in per capita net state domestic product. The per capita GSDP of Bihar increased to INR 59,637 (US$ 690.6) in 2022-23 and rose at a CAGR of 8.72% (in INR) between 2015-16 and 2022-23.

Bihar has high agricultural production, making it one of the strongest sectors of the state. About 80% of the state’s population is employed in agriculture, which is much higher compared to India’s average. The state has developed as the number one state in the eastern region in terms of agricultural production.
Bihar is the fourth largest producer of vegetables and the eighth largest producer of fruits in India.
Bihar produces nearly 85% of the world’s makhana, a superfood rich in protein, fiber, and iron. The state also has virtual monopoly in Litchi production in India.
Sixth-largest mobile subscriber base
With 64.31 million mobile subscribers as of March 2022, Bihar accounted for the sixth-largest mobile subscriber base among all Indian states.
One of the Best Performing State in country in MSME Growth
Bihar has a strong MSME base. The state bagged the second prize in the ‘National MSME Award 2022‘ to states/UTs for outstanding contributions to the promotion and development of the MSME.
MSME sector accounts for about 95% of the industrial units and 65% of manufacturing output.
The state government has provided ₹2266 crores direct financial support to 26405 aspiring entrepreneurs for setting up their units under the Chief Minister SC/ST/EBC/Yuva/Women Entrepreneurship Scheme (adding more every FY).
The growth of these MSMEs is not just limited to numbers but the Department of Industries is also ensuring qualitative and sustainable growth.
Bihar has topped the country with the maximum number of enterprises MSMEs from the state getting Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) certification. The state has 3,256 ZED-certified units out of 26,277 in India.
